Liposuction
and bodyshaping is the most common type of body contouring
procedure and is a large part of Dr. Davidson's Cosmetic
surgery boston practice.
Your
heredity determines where excess fat will accumulate in
your body. These fat deposits, which often persist in spite
of diet or exercise, can be reduced by liposuction. The
best candidates for liposuction are people who are not excessively
overweight and who have good skin elasticity .
Doctors
believe that adults have a fixed or constant number of
fat cells in their bodies. Because liposuction permanently
reduces the number of fat cells in the areas which have
been treated, the improvement is permanent, provided
that a stable weight is maintained.
Because
of the amount of fat which can be safely removed is limited,
people who are significantly overweight will need to lose
weight by dieting prior to surgery. To avoid disappointment
on your part, Dr. Davidson's office staff will ask your
height and weight before making an appointment for you.

The
tumescent technique consists of the injection of the fatty
tissues with a generous volume of a saline like solution,
which also contains xylocaine, a local anesthetic, plus a
medication which causes the blood vessels to constrict. The
tumescent injection is done before fat removal begins.
Dr.
Davidson routinely uses the tumescent technique of liposuction.
This important advance which facilitates the removal of
much larger volumes of fat while greatly reducing blood
loss. By performing this procedure in a hospital setting,
Dr. Davidson is able to remove much larger amounts of fatty
tissue with greater safety than could be done in an office
facility. Dr. Davidson has arranged for discounted hospital
and anesthesia packages for this procedure.
Ultrasonic
Assisted Liposuction ( UAL ) uses high frequency sound waves
to liquify the eaciss fat, which is then removed by suction
through small stainless steel tubes called cannulas. UAL
is particularly helpful in the waist, hips and lower back
where the tissue is tougher and more fibrous.
